Search Engine Marketing - Link Popularity

An important component of many search engine algorithms is link popularity. Several major search engines determine the ranking of sites by analyzing the number and quality of inbound links to that site. If a site has links from many prominent and well-respected sites it will receive a boost in the search engine rankings. Link building strategies and link popularity can also provide additional sources of highly targeted traffic.

Getting links from thousands of irrelevant sites, link farms and other suspect sources will not help you in achieving top search engine placement and will actually hurt you in some respects. More importantly, link popularity cannot be automated.

I spend an extraordinary amount of time learning about a website, its targeted markets and how to locate and attract high quality sites that:

  • Complement your site's content, goals and target audience
  • Offer the opportunity to review, showcase or highlight your products/services
  • Are market and theme specific search engines and industry related directories often referred to as vertical portals or vortals
  • Are linking with the competition

I contact each of these sites and request a link to my clients' sites. If you prefer I can send you a list of these relevant sites and instructions on making proper link requests.
